A New England

The TV-advertised ‘A New England – The Very Best Of Kirsty MacColl’ is released today. This 21 track collection is the perfect introduction to Kirsty’s work, highlighting her talent as a songwriter in her own right and her skills as an interpreter of classic songs.

Tracks include her first hit, There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis, They Don't Know, He's On The Beach, the Christmas classic, Fairytale Of New York with The Pogues, and covers of The Smiths' You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby, The Kinks' Days and Billy Bragg’s A New England.

It is quite right and proper that the much-missed Kirsty MacColl is remembered for her later hits and, of course, the Christmas perennial Fairytale Of New York; but Kirsty’s early career is just as full of the wit and humour that defines all of her work.
