The Pointed Sticks are the Godfathers of Stiff’s 2007 Vancouver power-pop outfit, The Tranzmitors. Almost 30 years before The Tranzmitors came along, The Pointed Sticks became the label’s first Canadian signing and released their only Stiff record, Out Of Luck (BUY 59).
They took their name from the Monty Python sketch Self Defence Against Fresh Fruit but there were no laughs when financial troubles at Stiff meant that it was not possible to follow Out Of Luck with the album the band had in the can. Vaporising for the rest of the 80s, they found a new audience in the 90s when that album, Perfect Youth was re-released alongside an official ‘live bootleg’, Waiting for the Real Thing. Then in 2006 all six original members regrouped for a Japanese tour and have played sporadic live dates ever since.
