The Subs

Scottish punk at its finest, this lone shot from The Subs was pressed onto yellow vinyl, but the band had as good as split up by the time it made the record shops.  Yet Gimme Your Heart is one of those songs that has stuck around.  As recently as 2006 it made number four in Stylus magazine’s Ten Top Scottish Punk Singles.  “Offered a chance to release a single on The Exile’s Boring Records, The Subs politely declined,” they reported.  “Instead, the group cast their lot with the fledgling Stiff Records and its subsidiary, One-Off…  Yes, (Gimme Your Heart) is your standard, teenage-angst-filled ditty, but it’s fun nonetheless.  Particularly the way the chorus comes across as a chant one might hear emanating from the kop at a football stadium.”
